the carlsons of cannon beach

Sometimes a family in Denver buys a house in Cannon Beach and decides they want to hire a photographer to capture their beachy summer selves. And sometimes they get on Pinterest and search "Cannon Beach family photos" and come across MY photos. And sometimes they tell their cousin in Portland that they're going to work with me and the cousin exclaims "EVERYONE in Portland wants to work with Posy!" And sometimes they tell me that in the kitchen of their gorgeous beach house, and I blush and gush and internally freak out (what if I don't live up to this ridiculous rumor!). And sometimes the sun shines brighter than it has EVER shined at Cannon Beach and we make the most of it and have a silly good time and capture a little gem or two here and there, because just look at this family and this beach, that's a combination that would be really hard to screw up. And I am SO grateful I didn't! Phew. In other words, a perfect day for an Oregon Coast family photo session. Do these photos make you want an autumnal version of your own? Well you're in luck because I'll be in Cape Meares on October 19th and I'm offering up just one session that day. Can't you just picture it? A cute beach cabin, your family snuggled up on the couch with mugs of cocoa and a big cozy blanket across your laps, kids working on a puzzle on the floor in front of a window overlooking the beach, a walk, maybe even a rainy one, through the beachy woods to the adorable stubby lighthouse. I hear there's even a secret pirate's cove with ropes for swinging and hidden treasure. Hit me with an email if you want to make it happen. xo, PQ

kissing dinosaurs and chasing seagulls

It's good having talented friends with whom I can trade photos sessions; Kati and I hatched this Cannon Beach plan last spring on one of those dreary gray cold-to-the-bone days, and it came to fruition on a perfectly gorgeous day in late August. Franny and I went first, and you can see those fuh-reak-ing amazing pics here (seriously, I need to write a whole blog post about how much it means to me to have gorgeous photos of me and my girl). We followed our session with dinner at Mo's - classic clam chowder and clam strips style - and then dragged Kati's family out onto the beach for some sunset sand digging and t-rex kisses. You might think that Muller is the cutest shaggy-haired 2 1/2 year old boy you've ever seen, sneaking up on his sister with a dino-kiss attack, and you'd be right - I call him my" baby boyfriend" so often that I think Kati is growing concerned for my sanity - but for me, it was Lola who stole the show on this evening. Lola... well she is a bit of an enigma. I adore her, truly, and yet, I am having a very hard time putting into words what exactly is so magical about her. I think it is precisely that,  that I am unable to pinpoint her with a label. She is intense and insightful and sometimes so reserved that when big smiles and child-like aspects come out of her I am taken aback for a second and reminded that she is indeed a child. And she is, as you can see, stunning. I love love love every picture I snapped of Lola alone on the beach. Kati grew up on the Oregon Coast, and as you can see from the images she captured of me and Franny, the beach is her canvas, lady was born to photo people on the beach. And Lola, Lola was born to be photographed on the beach. I mean, just look at her.

Cannon Beach with some oldies

So... I guess it's just going to be a photo heavy week. We'll call it an effort to catch up on my blog-slacking of late. August was a very photo-heavy month, so hopefully that will turn into a blog-heavy September. Moving on.

For those of you who have been with me from the almost-beginning, do you remember those postcards I had, you know with the super lame homemade logo on the back and the super cute, suuuuper chubby diapered babe on the front? Well that was Koen, almost four years ago. Or Ko-Ko as his mama calls him. And here is he above, with his little brother Liam, mom and dad, and dog, Shivers. Oh Shivers, there were numerous shots you ruined by sticking your rear in my frame just as I snapped the shutter, but I forgive you for looking up at Fred and Stacy right at the right moment in that kissy-family shot. And for being the picture perfect beach dog.

Gonna keep this one short and sweet today. More Cannon Beach pics tomorrow.
